Mala Making

  • Soma Studio Mt.Airy Philadephia (map)

An intimate afternoon of sacred crafting.

Mala beads have long been one of my favorite meditation tools. They are a tangible way to deepen presence, anchor intention, and give the mind somewhere to rest through repetition.

In this workshop, you’ll create your own 108-bead mala using traditional rudraksha beads, crystal beads, and a tassel, thoughtfully choosing the elements that feel aligned with the intention you want to carry into your practice.

As we create, we’ll explore the significance of the mala and the ancient practice of japa meditation (the repetition of mantra using each bead as an anchor for awareness).

Once our malas are complete, I’ll introduce you to a sacred Sanskrit mantra and guide you through a full japa meditation, moving bead by bead through all 108 repetitions.

You’ll leave with your handmade mala, an embodied understanding of how to use it, and a meditation practice you can continue returning to at home.

Your experience includes:

  • Materials to create your own 108-bead mala

  • Introduction to the symbolism and anatomy of a mala

  • Introduction to Sanskrit mantra + japa meditation

  • Guided 108-repetition mantra practice

  • An intimate gathering with snacks and tea provided
